Haymarket Chamber of Commerce Chinese New Year

Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of attending the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce's Chinese New Year celebration, along with the Premier and the Minister for Customer Service.

The Haymarket Chamber of Commerce represents a very active business community network, working closely alongside the City of Sydney Council to achieve the best results for businesses in the area.

The Chamber represents a wide array of businesses, including banks, restaurants and other professional services companies.

RAIN's Pongal Celebrations

I inform the House of the success of the Resourceful Australian Indian Network's annual Pongal Celebration, held on the 25th of January 2020.

The Pongal festival is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in South India and is a thanksgiving for the plentiful harvest received.

This is when farmers bring newly harvested rice home and feed their cattle a rice dish called Pongal- from where the festival got its name, and is dedicated to Lord Surya the Sun God.

Today I congratulate the Connells Point Progress Association on the work it continues to do for our local community.

The association aims to represent and give a voice to residents of the Connells Point area.

Its work is invaluable, as it ensures that people like me understand exactly what matters to the people we represent.

Throughout my nine years as a member of Parliament and many years as a local city councillor I have had a strong relationship with the association and have worked with it to secure some great outcomes.

Tribute to Warwick Cary ESM

I inform the House of the unfortunate passing of a local St George volunteer hero, Mr Warwick Cary, ESM.

Mr Cary served as a New South Wales State Emergency Service volunteer for the past 27 years, and was an exemplar model citizen.

Mr Cary joined the NSW State Emergency Service in 1982. During his time with the SES he served as the Kogarah Local Controller.

He was also an instrumental founding member of the NSW SES Volunteers Association in 1999.
