On behalf of the NSW Government I am delighted to be here and to support this important occasion.

Living with and managing type 1 diabetes is a demanding, frustrating and stressful job and it is particularly challenging for parents of young children and teenagers.

I can’t imagine the blow it must be to receive the news of a type 1 diagnoses.

Beverly Hills is located in my electorate and is a vibrant and busy district with great restaurants, family owned businesses and a real sense of community.

Good-morning Ladies, Gentlemen, Special Guests and in particular the talented and successful award recipients for the 2017 Strive Scholarships, for whom we are all here to celebrate and recognise today.

It is a real privilege to be here and to be part of this ceremony. I have always believed that education is first and foremost the one way that can truly have a transformative effect on an individual’s life. Before I continue, I would like to acknowledge the land on which we gather here and pay respects to our elders past and present.

It’s a great pleasure to be here with you to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.

The Minister for Trade, Tourism, Major Events and Sports has asked that I pass on his regrets for being unable to attend this evening.

New Year is traditionally a time for new beginnings … a time to get rid of bad habits and embrace change for the better.
