Living with and managing type 1 diabetes is a demanding, frustrating and stressful job and it is particularly challenging for parents of young children and teenagers.

I can’t imagine the blow it must be to receive the news of a type 1 diagnoses.

Good-morning Ladies, Gentlemen, Special Guests and in particular the talented and successful award recipients for the 2017 Strive Scholarships, for whom we are all here to celebrate and recognise today.

It is a real privilege to be here and to be part of this ceremony. I have always believed that education is first and foremost the one way that can truly have a transformative effect on an individual’s life. It’s a great pleasure to be here with you to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.

New Year is traditionally a time for new beginnings … a time to get rid of bad habits and embrace change for the better.
