The history of Chinese settlement in Australia is a long and complex one.


However, despite obstacles that were placed in the way of Chinese gold miners and settlers and some historic instances of discrimination, they quickly became part of the social fabric of this country, as long as one hundred and fifty years ago.


For today’s Australians, there would never have been a time when people of Chinese background were not a visible part of the community, well known for low crime rates and high levels of philanthropy.

Coure Tackles Issues For Families in First Speech

On Thursday 12th May Mark Coure gave his Inaugural Speech to the NSW Parliament as the Member for Oatley.


"To speak in the Parliament for the first time on behalf of the people and community that I hold so dearly was a truly humbling experience," Mr Coure said.


"Our community is to my mind, the heart of modern Sydney, it's dynamic, vibrant and multicultural and community that is conscious of preserving and improving our local environment.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

On Saturday 1 June I had the privilege of hosting a Cancer Council NSW Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.

I look forward to this event each and every year as a way to support the Cancer Council, which supports so many people in their darkest of hours. Cancer has affected many Australians, whether it is those diagnosed with cancer or the loved ones of those diagnosed with this awful disease.

Cancer unfairly and sadly took my mother at the age of 41—far too soon—and it is in her memory I host a morning tea annually.
