Increasing organ donation

I rise here today to reiterate to the house the pressing need to increase organ donation in NSW.


 


I was distressed to find that in the Health Minister's recently released Government plan- Increasing Organ Donation in NSW- that only 77 people donated an organ last year in NSW. This figure is made all the more stark when it is compared to the 1596 Australians that are currently on the transplant waiting list.

The changing face of Hurstville

 As I am sure you would agree, the recent 2011 census data demonstrates just how much Australia has changed. This census data is particularly relevant to me, as the electorate I represent is perhaps one of the most diverse regions in the state. In particular, the suburb of Hurstville is illustrative of the vast changes that have occurred to the fabric of our society in recent decades. Hurstville is a bustling, vibrant city with the largest Chinese population in Australia.
