I acknowledge the great work of the St George Business Chamber in launching its new Buy Local initiative. This new campaign aims to promote, support and benefit small businesses and communities within the local area, covering around 16,000 business that fall within the Georges River Council area. The initiative will assist small businesses to grow, create more local jobs and give back to the community. Small businesses employ almost 50 per cent of the New South Wales workforce.

St George Basketball Association Annual Presentation Dinner

Speaker, I recently had the pleasure of attending the St George Basketball Association’s Presentation Dinner, meeting some of the fantastic players in the St George representative teams. The Association has been active for over 40 years, and services two local Council areas. The Association has played a significant role in our community in providing young people the opportunity to play basketball, as well as develop their character and sportsmanship.

Australian Air League Riverwood Squadron

I commend the Australian Air League Riverwood Squadron for being named as Best Squadron in Field at the Australian Air League's State championships in September.

The Riverwood squadron has been preparing tirelessly in the lead-up to the competition and placed first in numerous events such as Junior Section Drill, Flight Drill, Squadron Drill, Best Band and Best Drum Major.

The Riverwood squadron offers its cadets the opportunity to undertake leadership development, learn teamwork and collaboration skills and take part in other community service activities.

Ladies Probus Club of Grandviews

On 18 September I had the pleasure of hosting a visit by the Ladies Probus Club of Grandviews at Parliament House. Grandviews Ladies Probus is a very active Probus group in my electorate of Oatley. It regularly holds social events and outings and has guest speakers at its meetings. Probus clubs are a great way for community members to meet and engage in activities together. It was great to have the Grandviews Probus Club come to Parliament for a tour and a lovely lunch, and I was very interested to hear about the club's recent activities.
