Australia Day

Thursday, 26 January 2012

Today Member for Oatley Mark Coure passed on his best wishes to the community for Australia Day and to enjoy the important occasion.

"Australia Day is an important occasion for the community to come together and celebrate the things that bring us together and unite us as Australians," Mr Coure said today.

"I love attending citizenship ceremonies on Australia Day, as it brings home to me the contribution made by people from all walks of life and different backgrounds who choose to make Australia their home.

"It also celebrates our welcoming spirit and sense of community, which is particularly strong in the St George region of Sydney.

"I hope everyone has the opportunity to reflect on what makes Australia such a great place to live and spend some quality time with loved ones and friends.

"I'd encourage everyone to check out the activities happening across the city and in our community at Oatley and Carss Bush Park. Of course there is always the option of the beach and a good bbq if the weather holds out!

"On a serious note double demerit points are in effect as of midnight tonight until midnight Sunday, and school zones are in operation from Friday 27th January. Motorists should take extra care over the holiday period.

"I'd ask everyone to be safe and responsible road users so we can all enjoy Australia Day and make it a great day for our community," Mr Coure concluded.
