Member for Oatley Mark Coure has congratulated members of the community who received awards in the Australia Day Honours list.
"The Australia Day Honours list recognises those who make an outstanding contribution to the community across a range of disciplines," Mr Coure said today.
"Whether it's in sport, science or social work all of the recipients have enriched our community for the better and made Australia a better place to live as a result.
"The Honours list also contains the name of many serving men and women, who serve our nation so proudly. Their awards are a sobering reminder of Australia's ongoing commitment, particularly in Afghanistan and the sacrifices already made.
"I'd like to make special mention of my dear friend the Honourable Helen Sham-Ho, who received an OAM for her services to the multicultural community.
"Helen served as a member of the Legislative Council from 1988-2003 and has always been a tireless advocate for multiculturalism, particularly on behalf of Asian communities across Sydney.
"I'd like to extend my congratulations to Helen and to all other recipients for their contributions, they serve as an inspiration to all of us," Mr Coure concluded.
