Curfew to ease within Georges River LGA

Thursday, 16 September 2021

From tonight, Wednesday 15 September, the curfew within the Georges River LGA will be lifted, following consultation between the Premier, NSW Police and NSW Health.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said that the removal of the curfew will provide a greater sense of hope and normality for Georges River residents.

“These curfews have been in place for more than three weeks now and the feedback from local residents has remained the same. I strongly welcome this decision and I know that local residents will too,” Mr Coure said.

“As we look towards the 70% vaccination targets, we must uphold the mental health and physical wellbeing of our community above all else. Georges River residents have largely followed all restrictions and it is fantastic to see that this is being acknowledged.”

The Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, has today stated that NSW has recorded 80% of the eligible population as having at least one dose of a vaccine.

“NSW is leading the charge and it is fantastic to see that the vast majority of residents from across all parts of the State have taken up the opportunity to get vaccinated,” Mr Coure said.

“Vaccination rates are continuing to increase at significant rates and this can be seen locally in suburbs including Mortdale and Oatley.”

“I also wish to see vaccination rates increase further in suburbs including Hurstville and Hurstville Grove, to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our entire community.”

“With almost half of the eligible population now fully vaccinated, the future is looking brighter than ever and we all have a role to play in getting these rates even higher. I strongly encourage those who have not already, to speak to their GP about getting vaccinated, to help protect themselves and our community.”

The Premier has also stated that we must hold the line and continue to follow all other restrictions and the ongoing health advice.
