Eased Restrictions for Recreation Begin Today

Monday, 13 September 2021

From today, fully vaccinated Georges River residents will be able to leave their home to engage in outdoor recreation, subject to requirements under the Public Health Order.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, notes that these eased restrictions are both a positive and welcome announcement that will improve the mental health and physical wellbeing of local residents and their families.

“This is great news for our community and those who are fully vaccinated and it comes as NSW reached the six million jab target last month,” Mr Coure said.

From 13 September, a person in the Georges River LGA will have a reasonable excuse to leave their home to engage in outdoor recreation no more than five kilometres from their home and within curfew hours if:

 The person is fully vaccinated (i.e., two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or a person with a medical contraindication certificate) or under 16.
 The outdoor recreation is only with persons who live in the same household and, if over 16 years of age, have been fully vaccinated.
 Outdoor recreation is limited to two hours per day.
 Persons over 16 carry vaccination evidence and produce it to a police officer on request.

“These changes are specific to recreation and it means that local residents can continue to leave their home to undertake exercise in a group of two or with their household and to supervise their children at play, within five kilometres of home and during curfew hours.”

In addition to these changes, the Public Health Order clarifies that it is now permissible to leave your place of residence to transport a member of your household who is authorised to leave home, e.g. for employment as an authorised worker.

Two additional exemptions have also been signed off on, permitting persons to leave their residence to learn to drive with a member of their household and for owners or occupiers of a maritime vessel to undertake necessary maintenance.
