Funding for local NSW Seniors Festival Activities

Friday, 19 November 2021
Lugarno Public School and SHARE Hurstville are part of more than 90 community organisations and councils sharing in funding to host events for the 2022 NSW Seniors Festival.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, announced that the organisations will share in a combined funding total of $4710, with the projects aimed at encouraging a greater sense of community and reducing social isolation.

“Given the difficult past 18 months that we have endured, this funding will support our seniors to get active and involved within the community through engaging activities and wellbeing programs,” Mr Coure said.

“Creating an environment that supports positive mental health and physical wellbeing for our seniors is important and by bringing our community together, we are doing so in a way that provides long-lasting benefits.”

“The NSW Seniors Festival is continuing to provide engaging activities to inspire the interests of our local seniors, while keeping them healthy, active and social.”

Minister for Seniors, Natalie Ward, said each group had received funding to provide opportunities for older people to participate in community activities and events.

“We are supporting programs that help our seniors stay healthy, active and energised, including yoga, gardening and performing arts,” Minister Ward said.

“Next year’s Festival will provide great opportunities for our seniors to re-connect through activities in their local communities across the State.”

“There are also programs to support older people to plan for retirement, housing choices and getting around. These grants recognise and encourage the contributions of older people in the community.”

The 2022 Seniors Festival will be held from Friday, 25 March until Sunday, 3 April and includes a variety of cultural, creative, sporting and recreational programs.

The grants align with the NSW Government’s commitment to our seniors, under the Ageing Well in NSW: Seniors Strategy 2021–2031.
