Advance Diversity Services and Jubilee Community Services have been chosen as recipients in the latest round of the NSW Government’s Community Road Safety Grant Program.
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said the Program will provide both organisations with the opportunity to run local projects that will increase road safety awareness and understanding and support safer road use.
Advance Diversity Services will use their $30,000 grant to help recently settled refugees and migrants to obtain a drivers licence and support learner-drivers in overcoming barriers in learning to drive.
A $4,820 grant to Jubilee Community Services will see the continuation of the Safer St George Citizens program. The program provides workshops to seniors on driver safety and first aid training including CPR.
“It is great to see two local community organisations taking up the challenge to educate residents about road safety and actively working to towards a zero road toll,” Mr Coure said.
“The $30,000 grant to Advance Diversity Services will assist recently arrived refugees and migrants to obtain their NSW drivers licence giving them valuable life skills and increasing their employability.”
“Jubilee Community Services at Mortdale received $4,820 in funding so that they can continue their Safer St George Citizens program which educates seniors about pedestrian and road safety through workshops and also provides basic first aid training.”
“I had the pleasure of visiting both organisations to announce the funding and can’t wait to see the programs in action.”
The Community Road Safety Grants Program has now funded 137 projects since 2015 and is an important contributor to efforts to drive the road toll towards zero and reduce injuries from road crashes.
Other projects funded around the state include technology to prevent collisions with wildlife, support for learner driver mentoring programs, workshops for people with intellectual disabilities and an initiative to discourage young surfers from texting and driving.
