Traffic lights upgrade at Queens Road and The Avenue Hurstville

Wednesday, 17 November 2021
Transport for NSW will upgrade the traffic lights at the intersection of Queens Road and The Avenue, Hurstville to increase traffic light visibility and improve the right turn traffic flow onto The Avenue from Queens Road.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said that this initiative was part of a more than $400 million investment by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments to improve road safety.

“These upgrades will improve road safety and traffic flow whilst also increasing pedestrian safety, with the work including the replacement of existing traffic lights, electrical work and new paving,” Mr Coure said.

“The upgrade features the installation of new traffic lights with a longer mast arm that goes midway onto Queens Road as well as the introduction of a right turn signal to eliminate unsafe turns onto The Avenue.”

Once completed, the new traffic lights will be elevated and extended across the road, improving visibility for vehicles travelling on Queens Road.

The right turn arrow on the new traffic lights will regulate vehicles turning onto The Avenue and those travelling west on Queens Road to improve safety at the intersection.

Work on the site will take place between Monday 29 November and Tuesday 7 December 2021, subject to weather and COVID-19 restrictions.

“Transport for NSW is ensuring that the work will have minimal impact on local residents and motorists. Day work hours will be from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturday. Night work hours will be between Sunday and Thursday, from 8pm to 5am.”

Temporary lane closures will be in place during work hours to ensure that the work area is safe for both workers and road users. Transport for NSW has asked that motorists please keep to the speed limits, follow signs and the directions of traffic controllers.

There may also be the partial closure of footpaths in the work area and clearly marked pedestrian detours will be provided.
